A Day To Remember - Big Ole Album Vol. 1
As the title suggests, my favourite band, who also happen to be Florida natives, released a new album, and for me, it slaps! In typical A Day To Remember fashion, the band made us wait four long years from their last album drop, and it was definitely worth the wait for me.
The song Miracle was first released back in 2022 as a teaser before becoming the Big Ole Album Vol. 1 debut single. That was followed by Feedback in mid-2024. Both songs were met with criticism online, mainly from fans who continue to expect the band to put out music resembling their previous albums, Homesick (2009) and Common Courtesy (2013).
For me, though, as a fan of ADTR from day one, I understand that their style has changed over the years, and I’ve always welcomed these fresh sounds. Bands have to eventually evolve just like everything else in life, and I can’t fault them for having some mainstream-sounding tracks. Let’s be real, streaming is great and all, but airplay on the radio is just as important to a band’s continued success, and not everyone is down for some hardcore songs.
A Blend of Old and New Sounds
The Big Ole Album Vol. 1 is a fun mashup of their older style and new stuff. I’m all about songs that put me in a good mood, whether I need to have a good scream session on my way into the office, I’m looking at you To Death, or when I want a song like All My Friends, which makes me want tohave fun ny participating in a car ride concert session.
Perhaps the most fun thing about the Big Ole Album Vol. 1 was the way the band released the album. They did a pop-up “surprise, here’s the physical copies” on February 18, 2025, along with two other singles, before releasing it on streaming platforms a month later.
A Standout Track With a Message
Before I close out my review, I’ve got to show some love to my favourite song on this album, Lebron. With lyrics like, “It’s us against the world, just my brothers and me”, I feel like this is the album’s f*ck the critics song, with one hell of a catchy beat. This particular song also addresses the fact that this band has been making music for over 20 years, yet they still can’t get the recognition that most fans would say they deserve. Bands with a similar sound and fanbase, that have been in the industry for a fraction of the time, are being put over while ADTR is still fighting for their moment. I really think it’s time someone gave them their Flowers.
Overall, this album is a fun ride, and I’m glad to see the band incorporate new and old sounds. I’m really looking forward to seeing where ADTR goes from here. But please, I’m begging you, shorten the wait between albums for me! I have a wedding to start planning for, and it’s no surprise that there are a few songs from this band on the list for the DJ, but I could always use more!
